Anyone with concerns about the quality of care offered by Southampton’s 65 care and nursing homes (both privately and council run) can call the city council’s Adult Contact Centre on 023 8083 3303.

The council says that it can act on any concerns by carrying out unannounced spot checks at homes to investigate any complaint.

People can also contact care watchdog The Care Quality Commission (CQC) about their concerns and experiences.

Although the CQC cannot investigate individual complaints any information it receives can be added to the ‘Quality Risk Profile’ it holds on each home.

These profiles, which also includes information from regular assessments, helps the CQC assess how many times an establishment should have largely unannounced visits, ranging from every three months to every two years.

People can contact the CQC by calling 03000 616 161, or write to the Care Quality Commission, Citygate, Gallowgate, Newcastle Upon Tyne, NE1 4PA or by email to enquiries@cqc.org.uk
