HUNDREDS of drivers were left stranded across Hampshire as snow brought chaos to the county.

This morning emergency services were drafting in the military to help rescue some drivers who have been trapped for up to 12 hours. The road ground to a halt at about 7pm trapping drivers near Petersfield.

Between 600 to 1,000 vehicles were caught up in an eight to nine mile tailbackon the road.

Emergency services were forced to set up three temporary shelters on the route.

I was stuck on the A3 near Petersfield for 5 hours last night. Some of my colleagues left work in Liphook at 5.30pm and didn't get home to Portsmouth til at least 4am.

I was lucky to get home at 11pm, as a plough had managed to get to the front (after a big effort by other motorists to clear its path of cars). However I understand that only a few cars behind me there were problems again as a coach tried to get up the hill.

Definately a night I will never forget.

Thanks! Yeah, total nightmare. It did restore faith in humankind a bit though, everyone was helping each other. Although I'm not sure how much of that was just because you had to help the people in front if you wanted to get moving!!

Up here in the north east the snow is a least 18 inches deep. My car has been stuck at home for days now. I'm from Southampton so I'm not really used to it. After a couple of weeks of this, the novelty is wearing off now.
