WITH 70 activities at 16 venues there was plenty of chance to burn off the calories during Southampton’s 30-Minute Sportathon.
Hundreds of people tried different activities including karate, ultimate frisbee, orienteering, basketball and pilates during the free 30-minute sessions.
Now in its second year, the event, organised by Southampton City Council and sponsored by Southampton NHS Treatment Centre, aims to get more people to take up regular exercise at local clubs. It comes as the Daily Echo continues its Beat the Bulge campaign designed to get more people exercising.
Our campaign was launched earlier this month after a council inquiry revealed that obesity costs Southampton £147m every year with just over one in four adults classed as dangerously fat.
More than 250 people went on to join local sports clubs or attend regular training sessions following last year’s Sportathon.
