A SCHOOLBOY climbed the highest mountain in the south of the UK to thank doctors for looking after his great-grandmother.
Jack Cornick and his dad John took on the challenge in memory of Jack’s great-gran Florence Cornick who died aged 87 last year.
The nine-year-old from Redbridge climbed Mount Snowdon and raised almost £700 for the hospital’s intensive care unit.
The pair took three hours and 50 minutes to make it to the top of the Welsh mountain and another three-and-a-half hours to get back down – walking around eight miles.
John, 34, an engineer, said: “I’m over the moon about it. It was such a hard trek up there he didn’t think he would make it back down again but he managed.”
Jack, who goes to Fairisle Junior School in Lordshill, Southampton, said: “I thought it would be a piece of cake but I was wrong. Coming down was worse because it was steep. My nan would be proud.”
