AN ANTI-POVERTY charity has launched an urgent appeal to find a new sponsor from Southampton to step forward and sponsor a child.

Wai, a six-year-old boy living in Myanmar, has very limited access to water, education and healthcare, and one in ten children in the country die before the age of five.

ActionAid hopes that it can encourage residents to sponsor him and help to provide a brighter future.

Jane Moyo, of ActionAid, said: “For just £15 a month, child sponsorship through ActionAid can help bring about real, long-term change.

“You’ll get two letters a year from the child you sponsor and updates from the country to tell you how the money you donate is changing lives.

“That could be through building classrooms, supplying clean water, delivering basic healthcare and even offering small business trading.”

The charity works with communities and tries to give children the chance of an education instead of being forced to work long hours to help provide for the family.

It also tackles extreme poverty and has helped to improve schools, lay water pipelines and help start small businesses.
