A former Southampton police constable appeared in court today charged with disclosing information and intelligence to alleged criminals.
Rebecca Swanston, 28, who used to work for Hampshire Constabulary, was accused of three counts of misconduct in a public office between January and October 2012 when she made a brief appearance at Basingstoke Magistrates' Court.
In the first count she is alleged to have given confidential information to Miguel Sewell and failed to report he had been in possession of a class A drug and that he had confessed to an assault with a weapon.
In the second count she is alleged to have given confidential information and two police shirts to Robert Morris and advised him about police procedures In count three she is alleged to have given confidential information to Tariq Khan who then gave the information to Alex Morris and this had frustrated an ongoing investigation into serious offences.
Swanston, of Lomond Close, Portsmouth, was based at Southampton Central Police Station at the time of the alleged offences.
She entered no pleas to the charges during the five-minute hearing and was granted bail.
The case was adjourned for a plea and case management hearing to be held at Winchester Crown Court on June 4.
Swanston was dismissed from Hampshire police in November 2012, the force said.
