THE HUNT is on for a thief who has stolen thousands of pounds from a Hampshire bank.

Police are looking for a woman after reports that £5,000 in cash was stolen from Barclays Bank, in Shirley, shortly after a customer withdrew the money this lunchtime.

However, it is understood that there could be as much as £10,000 in the bag, which was momentarily left on a chair inside the Shirley Road bank while the customer spoke with staff at the counter.

Officer quickly launched a search for a woman in connection with the theft, which happened around 12.40pm.

She is described as slim, in her 20s, with blonde hair which was in a ponytail. She was wearing black three-quarter-length trousers, a black vest and blue trainers.

Anyone with information should contact Shirley police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

The last time i visited Barclays in Shirley there were several cctv's covering all Public areas inside.
.
Would have thought that if they are still there and working it should be quite straightforward to identify the culprits

If I had 5k or possibly 10k that I had just withdrawn from the bank I would be holding on to that bag for dear life. There is not a chance on this earth that I would put it down for even a second. Either something dodgy is going on here or quite frankly they deserve to have lost it for being so dumb.

Well many people question if I have any brains but I'd never let that sum of money out of my hands.
Will the bank restore this persons money as it was stolen on their premises or will they say Tough?
I hope they say tough as I can't believe any one was this stupid & how did the woman know there was that much money in the bag?
Bit fishy isn't it?

Wait and see if plod arrest the loser or a close associate. I put money on them doing so.

I wonder if one of those elite squad types will deal or will it just be another report for the beleaguered response officer to deal with?

You seem to know rather a lot about the internal workings of the Hampshire Police. Is that from personal experience?

Did you find that things became much better when they replaced that horrible tin foil lasagne with Ginsters sandwiches, as custody bill of fare?

Ok I may be wrong but surely this 'thief' would not be hanging about inside a bank waiting for some unfortunate soul to just happen to leave a bag of cash laying about, so either she was in there as a customer or as a friend of a customer so can the police not trace her via that?

Or of course as others have said, it's a setup job and they will try to claim back the £5k from the bank.
