A DRUNK driver who knocked over a pedestrian, hitting her so hard the number plate from his car was left imprinted on her leg, has been warned he faces jail.

Southampton Magistrates Court heard how Krzysztof Glab, 40, was driving along Portswood Road, while more than three-and-a-half times the drink drive limit.

Swerving across the road he crashed into a parked car, shunting it into another vehicle, then at the junction with Lodge Road smashed into a traffic light pole wioth so much force it fell into the road and then hit a pedestrian.

Witnesses who rushed to the scene and spoke to Glab described him as being “dazed or unconscious” and smelling of alcohol, the court was told.

Describing what happened around 6.30pm on December 3, Claire Hartman, prosecuting, said: “The victim was in hospital for three or four hours and said she had an extremely painful ankle and had to use crutches to get around.

“The rest of her leg below the knee was painful which was due to the imprint of the number plate, and that was particularly painful and bruised as well.

“She was signed off from work and was very shocked and distressed at being hit by the defendant.”

The court heard that Glab, of Bullar Street, Southampton, is an agency worker and has lived in the United Kingdom for seven years.

Peter Clark, defending, said: “I have spent a bit of time with the defendant and it would appear that he does not normally get drunk.

“He went to work at 4pm and went to see a friend, had more drink than he should have done, and drove home.”

Glab pleaded guilty to drink driving and magistrates adjourned sentencing for a pre-sentence report.

He was given unconditional bail and will be sentenced on January 2, 2015.
