POLICE have released CCTV footage of a fire which destroyed two Southampton caravans as officer step up an investigation.

Detectives are trying to establish whether the blaze at Kanes Hill Caravan Site on Botley Road on Christmas Eve was deliberate.

The footage shows a man near the caravans before the fire started at around 11.55pm and police want to speak to him about the incident.

Detective Inspector John McGonigle from Southampton CID said: “At the moment we are keeping an open mind about the cause of this fire, but one of our lines of enquiry is whether it was started deliberately.

“A man was seen near to the caravans just before the fire started and we would like to speak to him as he may have information that can help us.”

He added: “We're also trying to trace any drivers who were travelling along the A27 West End Road past the junction with Botley Road between 11.30pm on Christmas Eve and 12.30am on Christmas Day, or travelling along St Johns Road towards Hedge End.”
