A PARLIAMENTARY candidate who is being investigated by police for handing out sausage rolls has revealed he may have lost valuables in the £200 million Hatton Garden jewel heist.

UKIP candidate Kim Rose revealed he had a safety deposit box stored at Hatton Garden Safe Deposit Ltd but he does not yet know if it has been stolen.

This comes as the candidate is due to be questioned by police over the sausage rolls incident today, when he has been told a decision will be made about whether he will face charges.

Mr Rose, a jeweller who is running for MP in the Labour-held constituency of Southampton Itchen, said the box contained sentimental items – a gold bracelet and Dupont lighter belonging to his late father Roy Rose, once landlord of the Surrey Arms, who died in 1984.

“They bring back memories of him – it was just memories of him and his lifestyle in the pub,” said Mr Rose.

“After not doing the last year of school and literally living out on the streets of Southampton, now I’m standing for parliament – he would have been proud.”

Daily Echo:

Officers in London did not respond to a burglar alarm at the Hatton Garden raid, deeming the matter of not needing a police response.

Mr Rose added: “The irony is that I actually keep jewellery in a box at Hatton Garden.

“I keep personal items of mine in there, I don’t knowif they were stolen or not. I’m going up to London next week to find out.

Mr Rose is under investigation by police in Southampton for allegedly ‘bribing’ potential voters by offering them savoury snacks at a UKIP event.

He criticised police for choosing to investigate him over his “petty wrong-doings” instead of “catching real criminals”.

“I know that the police are just doing their job by following my case up as someone reported me but to miss an alarm is outrageous.”

When he heard police were investigating him over the sausage rolls, Mr Rose laughed off the claims, saying: “Thank God they didn’t find the Jaffa Cakes.”

He also said that he is happy to forgive the person who reported him to police – and added that if he finds out who they are he “will give them some pork pies”.

He said he understood he could still stand for election no matter what the outcome of the police investigation is and intends to continue his campaign regardless, defiantly adding “being born and bred in Southampton if I want to feed my people I’ll feed them”.
