EXTRA police will be on duty at Totton carnival today following a fight involving a number of youths at the event last night.
Senior officers are warning that “prompt and firm action” will be taken against anyone who causes trouble at the carnival funfair this afternoon.
Police were called to Eling Recreation Ground at 9.40pm yesterday following a confrontation that took place after an alleged assault.
A police spokesman said: “A 19-year-old man from Southampton was later arrested on suspicion of a public order offence, questioned, and released with no further action.
“Officers are continuing an investigation today to establish exactly what happened, including the circumstances surrounding any criminal offences that may have occurred.
“Hampshire Constabulary will also take prompt and firm action against anyone suspected of threatening, inciting or committing crime at the event this afternoon.
“Officers are on patrol in the area of the event and will respond swiftly to deter and deal with any sign of disorder or anti-social behaviour.
“We want the vast majority of law-abiding people attending the Totton and Eling Carnival to enjoy themselves in a safe and relaxed atmosphere with family and friends.”
