A PLEA to find the witness of a fatal collision on the M27 has been launched.

Police are investigating a fatal road traffic collision which they think a lorry driver could help with.

Hampshire Constabulary are appealing to find the driver who is believed to be a witness to the crash on the motorway at junction 3 on April 12.

The collision involving a red Nissan Micra and a white Mercedes Sprinter van happened at around 3.50am.

As previously reported, the driver of the Nissan Micra, Ionut Balabaneanu, 35, from Bognor Regis, died in hospital on April 20.

Since the incident officers from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit have been carrying out extensive enquiries which have identified a Heavy Goods Vehicle which was in the area at the time, the driver of which they have yet to speak to.

Sergeant Adrienne Jerram said: “There is no suggestion from the evidence we have at this stage that this vehicle played any part in the collision but as it was in the area at the time.

"We would like to speak to the driver as they may have seen something which could help our investigation.

“They may have seen either of the vehicles involved prior to the collision, which may not seem important to them but could be significant to our investigation.

“If you were on that stretch of the motorway at the time of the collision and you have not spoken to us, please get in touch.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Sgt Jerram on 101, quoting Operation Pointer.
