A MAN has been arrested after a man was bound and had his eyes taped shut in his own home.

A 54-year-old man was arrested in north London this morning, on suspicion aggravated burglary.

The man was further arrested on suspicion of possessing a firearm following the discovery of a loaded weapon at the property. He has been taken to a police station in London for questioning.

The incident happened in Wilton Road, Southampton at 2.50am on May 21.

Two men broke into the house, threatened the 20-year-old occupant with a knife and bound him to a chair and taped his eyes shut.

The duo left empty handed and police believe the attackers were looking for drugs but targeted the wrong house.

The victim was unharmed but left shaken and distressed.

Detective Sergeant James McMann said: “I’m very happy with today’s arrest which resulted in a dangerous weapon being taken off the streets. We’re now preparing to question a man regarding the incident in Wilton Avenue last month but would still ask anyone with any information about the incident to get in touch on 101.

“To have people living in fear of violence is completely unacceptable and a threat that won’t be tolerated by the force.

“We are determined to make Southampton a hostile environment for those involved in this kind of criminal enterprise and through Op Fortress we hope the community can be assured that something is being done to target and disrupt individuals engaged in violent drug-related crime.

This morning's arrest was part of Operation Fortress, which is designed to reducing the impact of drug gangs from London upon Southampton.
