DESPITE the wet and dreary conditions, teenagers were determined to brighten up their community.

They braved the rain to give the Bishopstoke Memorial Hall a make-over, painting a mural on an outside wall.

Twelve young people worked alongside local artist Will Rosie to create the piece, which uses the word Glebe and has a poppy which appears to grow from the ground and represents the remembrance element of the hall, in Glebe Meadow.

They hope that the mural will cover over the graffiti, improve the site and prevent further graffiti.

The 16- to 18-year-olds, from the Southampton and Eastleigh area, spent more than six hours creating the piece.

This is the culmination of a six-week project for the young people as part of the Government-run National Citizen Service scheme.
