IT WAS an extravaganza of entertainment and fun for families in Hampshire.

Hundreds of people gathered in Hiltingbury Recreation Ground for an entertaining day in the sunshine.

The Hiltingbury Extravaganza was back in full force as organisers worked to make it their best event yet.

The grounds in Chandler’s Ford were packed with people all enjoying a host of activities with their friends and families.

Children were treated to a vast array of games and sweet treats from stalls dotted along the fete site including homemade cakes and funfair activities like spider mountain, kids karts racing and a ride on the little red bus.

Entertainment included a Ferris wheel looking over the celebrations as well as comedy acts, circus clowns, a climbing wall, pony rides and ferret racing.

Car enthusiasts could also enjoy a classic car display and animal lovers were treated to a dog show where residents could enter and show off their pets for the chance to win best in show.

There was also a chance for budding bakers to test their skills with the bake-a-cake competition for children and adults with parents asked to make their best Victoria Sandwich and youngsters asked to make Bunting biscuits.

This year organisers also brought a music zone with live performances from bands in Hampshire as well as special performances from local entries.

Producers were offering people the chance to try their latest recipes and there was a host of stalls selling gifts.

The Extravaganza has been a major event in Chandler’s Ford for more than 10 years, bringing the community together.

This year was the second year the show had bounced back after being cancelled in 2011 and 2012 because of a volunteer shortage.

The event is organised by the Hiltingbury Community Association and the Hilt Community Centre.
