TWO Chandler’s Ford youngsters are to use their entrepreneurial skills to raise money for a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Hannah Gilbert and Alex MacBean, both 14, will be running a series of fundraising events to fund their trip to Sri Lanka, where they will be helping local communities.

The two Thornden School students are among the few lucky chosen to take part in the World Challenge next summer.

The initiative aims to boost students’ confidence and help them become independent as well as providing support to communities around the world.

They need £3,200 each to fund their trip and they have decided to make the most of their entrepreneurial spirit to organise fundraising events.

Now they are asking the community to support them and are inviting residents to the quiz night they will run at The Hilt on Saturday.

They said: “It will be a great night and we hope that lots of people take part.”

The two said they were very excited about their trip, adding: “This is an amazing opportunity. We’ll be helping local communities and will be taking part in conservation projects. What we are looking forward to the most is being in an independent situation with our peers and going to a part of the world where we have never been before.”

Hannah has already raised £1,000 by selling home-made cards and delivering copies of the Daily Echo.

Her mum Cathryn said: “I’m very proud of her and absolutely delighted to be supporting them in the event. It’s a wonderful opportunity for them and we’ll be helping them on the night to make sure it will be a success.”

Tickets cost £10 and include food and drinks. The event will start at 7.30pm. To take part email handesignedforyou @gmail.com
