FAREHAM'S newly-appointed mayor says it is an honour to represent a "vibrant" town.
Councillor Mike Ford formally took over the role from previous mayor Cllr David Norris at a ceremonial event at Ferneham Hall this morning.
He has has chosen the Dave Wellman Cancer Trust and the Gosport & Fareham Inshore Rescue Service as his charities for the year.
Cllr Ford said: "It is a huge honour and a privilege to be Mayor of Fareham for the 2015 and 2016 year.
"Meeting the many folk that make Fareham such a vibrant place to live is high on our list. We know that an enormous amount of work is undertaken by many volunteers, charities and organisations within our community.
"We are particularly looking forward to hearing more about these and being able to thank many of those involved for their efforts on behalf of our town."
The new mayor's cadet for the year is Gabriella Lashmore from 1350 Fareham Squadron Air Training Corps, and she will take part in various duties to support the mayor.
