A MAN'S body has been recovered from a Hampshire river this morning.

Teams from the Maritime and Coastguard Agency, Hampshire Fire and Rescue and Hampshire police are currently at the scene at the River Hamble.

This morning coastguard personnel and Hampshire Fire and Rescue officers were seen gathering at a car park in Passage Lane, Warsash, wheeling down stretchers and other emergency kit towards the scene.

Police have taped off footpaths in the area, after being called to the scene near the Maritime College as part of a 'concern for welfare' shortly after 7am.

Their inquiries subsequently led to the discovery of a body on the shoreline. The incident is not being treated as suspicious.

South Central Ambulance Service has confirmed that they sent out the Hazardous Area Response Team, an ambulance crew and the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance, after being called out to Shore Road, just before 8.30am, to reports of a body in the water.

A spokesperson from the service later confirmed that a man's body was recovered by crews at the scene.

Initially, a Maritime and Coastguard Agency officer confirmed at the scene that the teams were working to rescue a person from the mud.
