A BOMB scare caused a Hampshire tip to be evacuated earlier today.

People were forced to leave after two unexploded Second World War mortars were discovered in a Segensworth tip.

The Segensworth Household Recycling Centre, in Barnes Wallis Road was closed for several hours this morning while an Army bomb disposal unit dealt with the mortars.

According to Hampshire police the shells were likely to have been innocently mixed up in household waste they were disposing of.

Police were called out to the tip at 10.40am before the Army’s Explosive Ordinance Disposal squad took over.
