A MAN has been arrested after walking along the motorway.
Emergency services rushed to the M27 after the pedestrian was seen walking along the hard shoulder.
Drivers were warned to be careful as they travelled eastbound between junctions eight at Bursledon and nine towards Whiteley, at 10.10am this morning.
The man, who had been walking with the flow of traffic, was arrested at the scene.
Now police are now investigating why he was on the road.
A spokesman from Hampshire Constabulary said: “We were called to junction nine of the M27 at 10.09am this morning after concern was raised about a man walking along the carriageway. Police attended and a man has been detained.”
Highways England warn that it is illegal for pedestrians to be on motorways or slip roads unless there is an emergency.
A spokesman said: "There was a report of a pedestrian travelling on the hard shoulder around about junction nine. One of our team is waiting for police to arrive. It is illegal for pedestrians to be on the motorway."
