AN EIGHT hour stand-off forced police to close a busy High Street this morning.

Officers said they were dealing with an incident on Gosport High Street.

As a result, the pedestrianised section of the road has been sealed off.

Officers were called at around 2.30am this morning after a man climbed on the roof of a parade of shops.

Police negotiators were on scene and speaking to the man trying to talk him down.

He finally came down shortly before 11am, meaning the stand-off last over eight hours.

Shops and businesses were closed, with no able to access properties while the incident was going on and the precinct closed.

The cordon was lifted however, to allow a funeral to take place.
