THE MALE driver killed in a single vehicle crash in Hampshire has been named by police.

Peter Lonsdale, 45, of Gosport, was killed instantly when his red Citroen Xantia collided with a tree near West Meon, shortly before 5am on Tuesday.

The incident happened on the A272 at Kitts Lane, east of Bramdean. The stretch was closed to West Meon Hut crossroads for 11 hours to allow for the vehicle to be recovered and the road to be cleared of debris.

Senior Investigating Officer, Sergeant Wayne Voller, said: ā€œI’d urge anyone who may have witnessed the collision to make contact with us as soon as possible.ā€

Witnesses to the crash are asked to contact Sgt Voller on 101, quoting Operation Gainsborough.
