I'm no expert, but isn't 8910 votes more than 1061 votes?

I fear that is a misprint. Probably should read 810 or 910. The worst news is the election of Linda Norris who lost her seat last year in Millbrook because she was such an awful Councillor. Obviously the local Tory party put her up for a safe Conservative seat as she fits the mould for the outgoing bullyboy administration.

What a local disaster that we have a Tory for our councillor, and one with such an awful past record. Thank goodness Labour did so well generally in the city.

Thankfully we have Conservative in power still, would be a shame if our area fell to the lies of labour.

Interesting that they said it was a 2 horse race between con and lab but lab have been pushed the third. The rest of the city fell because of a pathetic low turnout, shame on those who did not vote...

The low turnout, averaging 37% is higher than is common in local elections and very little different to 2011. Those sour grapes tasting nasty?
Still, at least you have one of your own in your ward. She at least lives a bit nearer Portswood than Millbrook, where she did nothing for the local people and why she was dumped out last year.

Well I agree that it is ridiculous that you can stand in any election in an area you don't live in.

The UK is in bad need of democratic reform.

I think the old saying 'some people would vote Conservative if a horse was put up for candidate' must be true after all...

Very disappointing! We would much prefer a local resident with a real interest in our area to represent us in Council.

This result just shows how utterly stupid the first past the post system is. If you add up the non-right-wing vote (Labour + Lib Dem + Green + Trade Unions/Socialists Against Cuts) it comes to almost double the Tory. Personally, I can stomach either Labour or Lib Dem but detest the Tories, and know many people who feel the same way. I'm grateful for the change in council administation and glad I picked the right candidate to tactically vote for this time (what else can you do under first past the post) but I personally feel Linda Norris is completely irrelevant as any form of local representative. It was a wasted opportunity to not reject first-past-the-post a year ago.

Spot on n1**,
That's the problem with tactical voting - it's too complicated to get it right collectively. Probably a lot of people voted tactically for the Lib Dems because they thought they had the best chance of beating the Tories, and others voted for Labour or Green because of associating Lib Dems with the Government. Result, we have what most of us didn't want. Bad luck for Keith Reed. I'm no supporter of the LDs but he's the only one of the candidates who's put in any work in our area.

Well I didn't get elected but I'll keep campaigning in the area in which we live.

I think the real problem is that people just don't know what this election was about. We were voting for the best person to run our area. People should be selected on merit, not which club they belong to.
