A MAN has died after a van crashed in to a tree on a Hampshire road in the early hours of this morning.

Police closed the A338 south of Fordingbridge after the incident at around 4.30am.

The vehicle involved, a Ford Transit, struck a tree, Hampshire Constabulary said.

The driver of the vehicle, believed to be a man in his 30s, died at the scene.

Formal identification procedures have not yet taken place, added a spokesman for the force.

The A338 reopened at around 9am.
