POLICE are investigating a break-in at a Hampshire petrol station in which cigarettes were stolen.

They believe the Picket Post station on the westbound side of the A31 in the New Forest was broken into after midnight this morning.

They are hunting for two men in relation to the incident and have issued a public appeal for information.

They have sealed off the station to investigate and the fuel station on the eastbound side is also sealed off at the moment, although police have said they do not have any reports of a break-in there.

Police say they are looking for two men after the break-in at about 12.30pm.

The force was called at 5.54am and the station was immediately sealed off so it could be investigated.

A spokesman said “a quantity of cigarettes” was taken, adding: “If you saw two men in the area acting suspiciously at around midnight please call 101, quoting incident 100 of June 2.”

It comes after two neighbours were hailed as heroes after stopping raiders from getting away from a petrol station they burgling.

As reported, two neighbours stopped two men wearing crash helmets from leaving the Esso Garage in Chandler’s Ford with more than £1,000 worth of cigarettes on Sunday evening.
