A 100-year-old Normandy veteran reported for his annual duty at Hampshire sailing club.
Bill Price, who will be 101 this month, presented the Normandy D-Day Cup to race winner Glyn Jones at Hythe Sailing Club..
Mr Price donated the cup to the club nine years ago in appreciation for the support it had given to the New Forest Normandy Veterans Association, which disbanded in January.
For many years the association held their meetings at the club, who never charged the veterans for the hire of their function room.
Mr Price, who lives in New Milton, joined the Territorial Army in 1938 and served all through World War Two. During D-day he manned an anti aircraft gun aboard a ship off Sword Beach.
The D-Day cup is unique in the sailing club’s calendar as it’s the only race in which dinghies compete against cruisers. The race was held on June 6 this year in windy conditions and was won this year by a dinghy.
As well as the trophy the winning skipper received dinner, bed and breakfast at the Beach House in Milford-on-Sea.
The D-Day lunch and presentation ceremony was also attended by Peter Hodge MBE, former general secretary for the Normandy Veterans Association and New Forest East MP Julian Lewis.
