A COUPLE have been fined for neglecting their Siamese cat so much that she had to be put down.

The RSPCA was called to the home of Claire and Scott Feltham in Clydesdale Road, Totton, after concerns over the health of their cat Isabella.

She was discovered collapsed on a driveway near their house and was in an extremely thin and poorly conditions.

The pet weighed just over four pounds and was taken to a vet who said the most humane option would be to to put her to sleep.

RSPCA inspector Tina Ward said: “This was the most emaciated cat we have seen for quite some time.

“When we went to scan Isabella to try to find her microchip it was initially thought she was dead.

"It was when she gasped for breath we realised she was still alive.”

The couple later told the RSPCA that Isabella lost weight after going missing, but gave different dates of when she had disappeared.

Southampton Magistrates Court heard that they then claimed the cat had cancer, but a vet found no health conditions that would explain the weight loss.

Claire, 45, and Scott, 46, were fined £500, ordered to pay court costs of £500, and each given a two-year conditional discharge.
