Spate of catalytic converter thefts (From Daily Echo)

No doubt we'll get the usual mob moaning that it's due to Police cuts as they expect an officer on every single street corner at any one time!

Get ready...............

Surely it will be cheaper for Tax payers for the UK to double if not triple our prison spaces.

Lock up more crims, take away the perks whilst inside and get them off the streets once and for all.

The system isn't working as it is because these crims know they will either get away with a slapped wrist or spend a week at Butlins.

More prisons and get rid of them off the streets. Whilst they're inside, treat them like school kids, classes all day to try and educate the muppets!

I didn't know Romsey Road was in Totton! I thought it was in Shirley/Milbrook area which is Southampton not New Forest!

Well if they couldn't get money for it they wouldn't steal it. Thieves took something off one of our vehicles with our name on it - some scrap dealer bought it knowing full well it had been nicked. If the scrappy had been honest we'd have got it back, saved a fair bit of money and the thieves would have been done for theft.

My issue is, everyone knows they can get away with crime! I have NEVER been in trouble with the Law, have a clean record etc, but know **** well that if I go and commit a crime, based on my record I would get away with it!

This is what we are teaching our kids!

its the metal dealers who are just as much to blame, surely they understand when car parts, led from churches, copper from signal boxes and ASDA trolleys that its highly likely to be nicked, instead of wasting time looking for part time thiefs they should sting the metal dealers and be watching what is deported from our docks.

i had a cat stolen from my car was really upset. they just took it overnight if anyone see's the cat it answers to the name rusty and is ginger i really miss it sitting on my rooof

You state that you have never been in trouble with the law but, I seem to recall one of your past rants, if I’m not mistaken, where you confessed to a driving conviction, of course it wasn’t your fault, but doesn’t your motoring conviction count as being "in trouble with the law" or just like your evil namesake does selective memory kick in when on your high horse putting the world to rights about things you Know very little about.

I wasn't whinging, My thoughts went straight to the Romsey Road in Shirley..I thank Woolstonian for correcting me actually. I don't mind being corrected. And he didn't shut me up as you put it. :-P

Also he got the area wrong, Romsey Road Southampton is Shirley and Redbridge. but I was going to say the same road that runs from Cadnam Roundabout to Mainstone Road (A27) Romsey.

The confusion stems from same old problem of the police quoting addresses to the Daily Echo as listed under the names of police divisions which DO NOT coincide with either postal address boundaries or local authority boundaries. The Daily Echo never checks this out. Romsey Road, CADNAM,Southampton (A31) in New Forest DC area SO40.
Romsey Road, COPYTHORNE, Southampton (A31) in New Forest DC area SO40.
Romsey Road, LYNDHURST, Hants, (A337) in New Forest DC area SO43.
Romsey Road, OWER,Romsey, Hants (A3090) in Test Valley DC area SO51.
Romsey Road, NURSLING and ROWNHAMS Southampton, (A3057) in Test Valley DC area SO16.
Romsey Road , SOUTHAMPTON CITY area (A3057) SO15 / SO16.

There is no Romsey Road in Totton.In the report it is most likely referring to Romsey Road in either Cadnam or Copythorne which are in the Totton police division.

I'm not sure if Southy's interested, but there is a link between Margaret Thatcher and catalytic converters - I wonder if he know's what it is?

If your selling scrap metal then you should have to produce your driving licence and passport. Your vehicle registration should be taken and a photograph of the seller. If there is any discrepency between the 2 documents then you should not be able to sell the scrap. It's not difficult really is it? Human rights should not apply here. Human decency should! I'm also sure that China doesn't give a fig where the metal comes from.

Excuse me guv, I was just clearing out my shed when I found a dozen catalytic converters, 500 metres of copper coax cable and 40 sq m of lead roofing. Would you be interested in them as scrap?

Unfortunately, I am aware of one scrap dealer locally who would take your word on that (not saying which one here) but most are responsible enough to question anything TOO dodgy. So, they might take one catalytic converter, but not several together.

Sovietobserver, actuall she was AGAINST catalytic converters. Being an educated woman with a degree in chemistry, she could understand research papers and saw how much CO2 they pumped out. She was more in favour of lean-burn technology.
