POLICE are investigating after a van crashed, leaving two of their officers in hospital.

The accident involved a single police van that was travelling along the Lymington to Beaulieu road.

It was on its way to a public order incident involving a group of youths in Marchwood when the crash happened.

The driver and front seat passenger were both injured in the incident, which happened in the early hours of Sunday.

Police are not releasing any details about the two officers or the extent of their injuries.

A spokesman said: “A police Ford Transit van was involved in a single-vehicle accident on the B3054 Lymington to Beaulieu road.

“It was responding to a grade one emergency call.

“Both the driver and front seat passenger suffered injuries and were taken by ambulance to Southampton General Hospital.

“The cause of the accident has yet to be established. The vehicle has been recovered and will be subject to examination.”
