MOTORISTS are facing traffic misery this afternoon after a giant tree crashed down across a busy road in the New Forest.
Police were called out after receiving reports that a 60ft silver birch had fallen on the A35 at Holmsley, between the Tea Rooms and the Rhinefield Cross Roads.
The incident happened amid windy conditions at around 11.20am today.
Cars are being directed around the tree on one lane of the road, causing long delays for drivers in both directions.
Hampshire County Council workers have been called to the scene, though no time frame has yet been given for the road to be fully reopened.
