A HAMPSHIRE man has been charged with evading excise duty totalling £15,800.

David Michael Carr, 44, of Ocknell Grove, Hythe , was arrested at the Port of Harwich in Essex following the seizure of 12,800 cigarettes and 78 kilos of tobacco.

Carr was detained on suspicion of evading duty on tobacco goods and was subsequently charged at Clacton police station following an investigation by HM Revenue and Customs.

Carr was released on bail until September 25, when he will appear at Colchester Magistrates' Court.
