Royal Mail meets targets for 94 per cent of post in Southampton post code area

Daily Echo: Royal Mail mets targets for 94 per cent of post Royal Mail mets targets for 94 per cent of post

POST in Southampton was delivered on time thanks to Royal Mail delivering a target-beating performance throughout most of last year, latest figures reveal.

Ninety-four per cent of first class mail sent in the SO postcode arrived at its destination the day after posting between April and December last year.

Other targets were also beaten such as the delivery of parcels and of second class mail.

A Royal Mail spokesman said the recent performance was delivered as the company continues down one of the biggest modernisation programmes anywhere in UK industry. New technology and better equipment is being deployed nationwide and the working practices of staff are changing.

Mike Devanny, Royal Mail delivery director, said: “We are pleased that we are continuing to deliver high quality service to our customers in the SO postcode area. Our postmen and women work extremely hard to deliver to some of the most demanding quality of service standards in the whole of Europe.”

Wow. You've met the targets you've chosen to assign yourselves. Congratulations.

How about ensuring deliveries take place at roughly the same time every day? i.e a delivery in the morning and a delivery in the afternoon?

It's not like the world turned on its head in 1996 and rendered the idea completely impossible.

We tossed post cards, with second class stamps, into a postbox somewhere in Worcester town centre Friday afternoon about 2.30 or 3pm. They arrived in Hedge End and Totton on Saturday. No complaints here!

Shame its still a c.rap service. A postie the other day left a small package IN a recycle bin! This particular postie is a constant annoyance to most of my neighbours and there's no set time of day either. It can be 10am or as late at 10pm yes, 10PM. Many moons ago when people cared about service we had the same postie delivering 6 days a week at a similar time every day. What's happened to that? And, if he continues to leave my gate open I'm going to kick his a.ss. Its closed when you come in so fcucking close it when you go out. Useless.

Ha ha ha ha this has to be a joke. I continually get mail intended for another address posted through my letterbox. Even writing on the envelope "delivered to wrong address, please redirect to address on envelope" makes little difference. Once the stupid postman actually delivered back to me a letter with the above message written in huge black letters!!!!! Useless service in SO23 - Winchester.

Speaking as a typical Echo numpty, I can safely say that, given I once had a letter arrive a bit late, that my experience is clearly indicative of how the entire service is run, so this entire story is a pack of lies.
