A HAMPSHIRE village has paid homage to a pillar of the community who died last week.
Around 100 mourners gathered at St Andrew’s Church in Mottisfont to say farewell to John Pragnell who was 88.
The service of thanksgiving for John’s life was conducted by the Rector of Mottisfont, the Rev Ron Corne and lay reader Gina Livermore and included the hymns, The Lord’s My Shepherd, Lord of all Hopefulness and Abide with Me.
Afterwards John was laid to rest in the village cemetery.
He was a former treasurer at the church and he was a Mottisfont parish councillor for 31 years in the largely National Trust-owned village. He fought for 30mph speed restrictions to be imposed on the village’s roads and other road safety measures to benefit the community.
John is survived by Betty and daughters Brenda and Ann and their families.
