MOTORISTS in Romsey face further disruption with eight weeks of sewer improvement work set to start today.
Hampshire County Council has announced that Southern Water will start a 10-week project to upgrade the sewer on Cupernham Lane and Fishlake Meadows.
This means temporary traffic lights will operate for eight weeks on Cuperham Lane to control traffic approaching the roundabout in both directions.
HCC said that the lights will be manned to ensure any disruption is kept to a minimum.
This follows three months of diversions and queues after the bridge over the Southampton to Salisbury rail line was closed to traffic leading to the closure of the A27 into Romsey until the work was completed on June 22.
This was due to work to raise the Ashfield rail bridge to allow large containers to pass under it to provide a diversionary route, if needed, for freight trains from Southampton to Basingstoke.
