THIS was the scene of devastation after a supercar ploughed through a family’s garden.
The black Audi Quattro R8 left the road, smashed through a hedge before demolishing a shed, bench and a fence leaving children’s toys strewn in its wake.
Andrew and Paula Rigby were woken by the car – ironically with the registration R8 OFF – crashing off Carters Clay Road in Awbridge, near Romsey , and across their back lawn.
The couple and their children, Wilson, 3, and Fay, 1, were all asleep in their house on the corner of Newtown Road when the incident happened at around 1am yesterday.
Paula dashed out of the house to the car, which had come to rest near their driveway, but it was empty.
Paula, 34, said: “I heard a bang, it was not particularly loud. I thought it was the kids then I heard voices outside, looked out and there was a car in the garden.
“I was shocked, it took a while to sink in what had happened. I was very upset because it was all the kids’ things.”
Neighbours were also quickly out of their homes to survey the scene.
The hedge had been moved around 15 metres by the car while tyre marks and children’s toys including trikes and plastic skittles were scattered everywhere.
Paula added: “I found it all very horrible, it could have been in the day when my kids were in the garden. It’s hard not to think of what ifs.
“They could have been killed if it was in the day if they were in the garden – their toys are all trashed.”
She said a similar thing had happened on two occasions at the property before they lived there.
However, she thought it was lucky that the cars and house were not hit.
“In the grand scheme of things I was quite relieved that no one was hurt,” she added.
Police are investigating. They have not made an arrest, a spokesman said.
