England have drifted out to 33/1 to win the World Cup and are 4/6 to qualify for the knockout stages of Brazil 2014 after being drawn in a tough group alongside Italy, Uruguay and Costa Rica.

The Three Lions are a top-priced 5/2 at Ladbrokes to progress as table toppers and 11/5 with that firm to beat the Azzurri in their opening match of the tournament in Manaus.

"England are on the drift following the draw and we now think they may struggle to get out of the group let alone anything else," said spokesman Alex Donohue. "They will head to Brazil at the biggest price they have been for a major tournament for quite some time."

Roy Hodgson's side are 6/5 with Betfred to be eliminated at the group stage, with Mark Pearson stating: "I'm afraid the continent, the climate, the travelling and the draw are all against England, that's why the Three Lions have drifted out to 33/1 to win the World Cup."

A Paddy Power spokesman added: "Things did not quite go to plan for the Three Lions, with their first game scheduled against heavyweights Italy in the Brazilian jungle.

"Adding a second star to that kit looks less likely than 24 hours ago but progression could see them face a relatively simple second-round match up. The six-month countdown to a heroic quarter-final exit begins here!"

Jack Milner of BetVictor commented: "We make England the 2/1 third favourites to win Group D behind Uruguay at 13/8 and Italy on 7/4 in what looks on paper a tough ask, they will need to nick points from the big two to progress to the knockout stages."

Bet365's Steve Freeth believes punters may be put off backing the Three Lions, declaring: "There was no sign of a patriotic plunge when England qualified for Brazil and we're not expecting things to change with that draw!"

Coral spokesman David Stevens echoed those thoughts when stating: "Roy Hodgson has said he would put his tenner on his side, but the tough draw is unlikely to prompt many English punters to follow suit."

Brazil remain favourites to lift the trophy on home soil, with Paddy Power offering a top price of 7/2 for the hosts, while Argentina are next best at 5/1 after receiving a favourable draw.
