A PIZZA delivery driver was flung off his bike on his way out of Southampton after colliding with a car.

Witnesses have spoken of the moment they saw the man in his 30s go over the roof of the car which collided with him and into another car before landing in the street on London Road.

The collision happened at around 6.30pm and emergency services are currently on the scene.

The road has now been re-opened after the incident outside of the Varsity pub at the junction with Carlton Crescent.

Hampshire police have told the Daily Echo that the man is conscious and breathing and that he collided with a red Alpha Romeo.

Joseph Cooray, 60, was talking on the phone outside of the Varsity pub when he saw the accident happen.

He said: “There was a collision between a pizza delivery driver and a red car. The pizza delivery driver went over the roof and then hit a silver car before falling in the street.

“I was the first person to reach him and two girls quickly came over and called 999 and they were shouting at people not to move him.”

A spokeswoman from South Central Ambulance Service added: “We were called to London Road at 6.30pm to reports of a two vehicle accident involving a car and a moped.

"We have sent one ambulance crew and the incident is ongoing, they are assisting and treating a man in his 30s and his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.”
