Organisers of a new Southampton festival are looking for people to decorate trees during their event.

Riverfest will bring a day of music and entertainment to Riverside Park in May.

As part of the festivities organisers would like creative volunteers to choose a tree on the field near Cobden Bridge, where the music stage will be.

They are asking you to help decorate the trunks of the biggest trees in the area with bunting, ribbons, colourful wool or anything else you can think of.

Organisers Mandi Bissett and Catherine Wright said: "Anything we can wrap around the trunk is what we are after. We would like you to make bunting at least 30m in length plus 3m of extra tape at each end to tie – and it can take any shape or form you like. Each decorated tree will be given a name inspired by your design, and we will use these as location names for our activities on the day. E.G. “Story time for toddlers is at 2pm by the SEAGULL tree.”

They are suggesting people take the river as inspiration for their decorations and to use bright, cheerful colours that will contrast with the tree trunks.

They will provide cotton tape, access to Southampton Scrapstore, and will help transport and install your finished bunting in the park on May 27. Sign up before April 16 and have your bunting finished by May 22.
