CIVIC chiefs and community leaders in Southampton celebrated the arrival of the city’s new mayor.
In his inaugural reception, mayor councillor Les Harris welcomed Southampton City Council executives and members from his two nominated charities at the event in the council buildings.
The mayor has nominated the Southampton Sea Cadets, and the Southampton Hospital Charity, which is working to build a new children’s emergency and trauma department at Southampton General Hospital.
With a target of £4.8 million, fundraising has surpassed £650,000, which is being matched by the government.
The Southampton Sea Cadets are looking to double capacity, currently taking on 40 youngsters aged between ten and 18.
