THE man found dead in a bin in Southampton has been identified by police.

He was 22-year-old Jamie Dack from Millbrook Road West.

His body was discovered by fire crews who had been called to put out a fire in an industrial bin at around 3.10am at Dukes Road on the Empress Road Industrial Estate.

Jamie’s family have issued the following statement: “Jamie was a loving son and brother, well liked by everyone and he will be sadly missed. He was a good natured young man who liked to chat and made friends easily and had a trusting nature.

“His whole family are devastated by his untimely death. He was a young man who should have had his whole life ahead of him this has been cut abruptly short by whoever committed this horrendous crime.

“We would urge anyone who knows anything about Jamie’s murder to get in contact with the police and let them know what you know. It could make all the difference and help them find who did this to Jamie.”

As previously reported by the Daily Echo, four people have so far been arrested by officers investigating the crime. They are a 31-year-old man, a 28-year-old man, a 25-year-old man and a 20 –year old woman. They were all arrested on suspicion of murder and have had their time in custody extended until midnight, Tuesday, April 10 to allow detectives more time to question them.

Detective Inspector Simon Baker of the Hampshire Major Investigation team said: “We are still questioning those we have arrested. We were able to make these arrests swiftly and I’d like to reassure people that we do not believe this was a random attack and that Jamie knew his attackers.

“We have now lifted the cordon around the area where Jamie’s body was discovered and would like to thank local businesses for their co-operation while we were carrying out our essential work at the scene.

“We are still carrying our forensic work at a second scene at Bevois Mews off Earls Road and this may take sometime. We are also carrying house to house enquiries in the area.

“We still very much need the publics help in piecing together exactly what happened to Jamie. I would like to hear from anyone who saw him or knew what he was planning to do at anytime between Thursday, April 5 and around 3am on Sunday, April 8 when his body was found.

“I believe Jamie’s body was probably moved to the site where he was found in a domestic wheelie bin.

“The exact route is not known at this stage but we think people will have noticed if they saw some people pushing a wheelie bin for some distance in the area of Bevois Mews and Earls Road through to the Empress Road Industrial Estate late on Saturday night or early on Sunday morning.

“I would ask anyone who did see this to contact the Operation Waterloo team at Hulse Road.”

● Earls Road
● Cedar Road
● Clausentum Road
● Forster Road
● Spear Road
