WORK has been completed to restore a war memorial in Otterbourne.

The Otterbourne War Memorial has undergone a complete refurbishment in time to commemorate the centenary of the start of the First World War.

One of the organisers, Terry Revell, said: “Thanks go to the generosity of Southern Water and Clancy Docwra, who have jointly kerbed the whole area, and BAM Nuttall, with the assistance of Elliot Brothers and Travis Perkins, who have cleaned down the whole memorial, lifted, re-pointed and replaced the surrounding flagstones as necessary with re-claimed York stone.

“Over £3,600 was raised locally, large donations being received from Otterbourne Parish Council, Allbrook Parish Council, Williams Garage and Veolia Environmental, and from kind-hearted villagers to help pay for the above-mentioned improvements.”

Portland stone pillars were also built and box hedging was planted to surround the site.
