THE UK'S longest-running street arts festival is inviting people to learn dance moves ahead of its flash-mob style dance spectacle.

Hat Fair, based in Winchester, has commissioned Swingtime - its largest ever participatory outdoor event.

It will see the city burst to life at midday on Saturday July 4 as people from all corners of the community come together to perform.

Twenty dance ambassadors will learn the routine, created by acclaimed StopGap Dance Company, before teaching it to more than 500 schoolchildren, members of community groups, businesses and dance classes.

There is also a chance to learn the routine with an online video, or in person on the day of the event at the Great Hall between 10am-11am.

Hat Fair, whose new artistic director is Michelle Walker, is looking for dancers to take part. To get involved email jo.hennessy@theatreroyalwinchester.co.uk.

Last year marked 40 years of the festival with over 60,000 people enjoying three days of free entertainment at a variety of venues across Winchester.

This year's event runs from July 3-5.
