WINCHESTER police station is set to close by the end of the year when staff relocate to a council block.

The closure of North Walls station, revealed by the Chronicle last year, is expected between October and December, according to district commander Darius Hemmatpour.

The North Walls base (pictured below) is currently operational and open to the public, but will close after local neighbourhood officers move to a new headquarters at Mottisfont Court, the former county council building in Tower Street.

Daily Echo:

The station is temporarily housing Hampshire investigators looking into Winchester crimes, as well as staff evaluating the city’s licensed premises.

Emergency response officers have already moved to the fire station in Winnall Manor Road.

Mr Hemmatpour said: “Our response teams recently moved to Winnall fire station and are permanently based there although that is not a public access building.

"We are expecting to vacate North Walls to the new operational HQ at Mottisfont Court sometime between October and December this year, but that has not been confirmed as of yet.

"It certainly won’t be beforehand.”

The move is due to government cuts to Hampshire Constabulary, which is reducing its estates bill to minimise job losses.
