CONCERNS have been raised about the increase in dangerous parking in a Winchester suburb.

The verges of Andover Road, north of Stoney Lane, Weeke, are being used by vehicles impeding buses and emergency vehicles.

Cllr Anne Weir, who lives just off Stoney Lane, raised the issue at Council and asked what the city council is doing about the early provision of park and ride at nearby Barton Farm and the increased demand for parking in north Winchester.

Cllr Jan Warwick, portfolio holder for environment, said she was aware of the issue and officers are looking at ways to tackle the problem.

A 200-space park and ride is due at Barton Farm once 650 houses are occupied, by around 2019-20.

The city and county council are working on a movement strategy for Winchester and the need for more parking on the north side should be considered, said Cllr Warwick.
