A ROW over whether a parish council can stay at a Hampshire community centre could be over.

Colden Common Parish Council and Colden Community Association have been at loggerheads about whether the council can use the building as their base.

As reported in the Daily Echo last year, the parish council own the building and lease it to the community association.

However the organisations could not agree on whether the council should pay an hourly-rate for using the centre.

The row resulted in the parish council vacating the building.

After talks between the council, community association and groups which use the building, an agreement is now in sight.

A parish office statement says: “General agreement has been reached between the Parish Council, the Music & Drama Group, and CC Community Association representatives regarding the requirements for refurbishment the space to be used by the Parish Council and the relocation of equipment.”

The refurbishment will mean the room, which was the subject of debate, will have a “shared use”.

Chairman of Colden Common Parish Council, Richard Izard said he was positive about talks between the parish council and other organisations.

He said: “The drama group are working well with the parish council and trying to resolve the situation.

“Unfortunately it has taken such a long time. Let's hope the saga can end.”
