CHILDREN attended a one-day conference on how to save energy.

Pupils were encouraged to produce action plans at the event at Lyndhurst Community Centre that will enable their schools to be more green.

They saw electric cars called Twizys, a biomass boiler and learnt about sustainability from visiting experts, who gave advice on how to use less energy, cut carbon emissions and switch to renewable energy.

Cllr Keith Mans, deputy leader of Hampshire County Council, who attended, said: “This conference is very beneficial for pupils, helping them to learn a huge amount about how we can do our bit to save energy and cut carbon emissions.”

Pupils from five primary schools in the New Forest attended the conference. It was organised by New Forest Transition.

Project co-ordinator Cathy Cook said: “The conference will help the children write action plans that will be entered into an energysaving competition.”

Scottish and Southern Energy is offering a £750 cash prize to the winner to put towards their school’s energy-efficiency measures.

Runners-up will receive energy-saving prizes donated by Homebase and Magnatech.
