“Every night when I read in bed I have my dictionary beside me so if I get stuck on a word I can look it up. It’s so fantastic!” This is just one quote from the many “Thank You” letters received by the Rotary Club of Romsey Test after the third year of their Dictionary 4Life project. Each year almost 300 primary school children around Romsey receive a copy of the Usborne Illustrated English Dictionary from the club. These were handed out in school assemblies during October. Planning for next year is now well advanced and was given a boost when the club received £450 from Waitrose in Romsey – the proceeds of their Community Matters green token scheme in August. The cheque that will cover half the project’s costs, was presented at an evening run by the club for their business partners. The speaker was Dr Simon Crewe from Plymouth who talked about the Rotary project in Timor Leste that is run jointly by Romsey Test and Landford-based charity Dentaid. Dr Crewe led an effort to train dental technicians who will improve the state of dental health in a country where dental care barely exists.

At the Business Partners’ meeting Club President, Gren Lamb Hughes presented certificates to recognise the support of the club by their business partners in the past six months. They were Bettavend, Fotoflair, Pebble Graphics, Trekwear, Wheelers and Waitrose.
