PRIMARY school pupils worked some magic on popular musical to make it their own.
St John’s Primary School at Rownhams adapted the Disney version of Mary Poppins for two sell-out shows.
All of Years 5 and 6, a total of 99 pupils, were involved in some way if not on stage or in the choir then working behind the scenes on lighting, props, scenery and music.
The script was edited down to an hour with additional parts added for all those who wanted an acting role.
Grace Mullet played the title role and Bert the chimney sweep was played by Darcie Gray. Mia Crook played the bird lady. Michael and Jane were played by Harry Harry Vincent and Lucy Rees and Mrs and Mrs Banks by Rees Gorry and Meredith Collier.
Songs were brought up to date and the children wrote their own rap for the bank scene and added a new scene set in a circus.
The directing was also a joint effort with teachers Hayley Adams, Steve Brown, Abby Hogbin and Marie Withers sharing the role.
Learning Support Assistants Gursharan Shahi, Helen Pirie and Susan Valois also helped out with scenery, programmes, photos and singing.
