TELEVISION celebrity “Cake Boy”
Eric Lanlard served up some tasty treats when he launched a yearlong cancer charity appeal in Southampton yesterday.
City-based P&O Cruises’ ships are throwing their combined weight of more than half a million tons behind the work of Macmillan Cancer Support.
To mark the start of the appeal Eric, the multi-award winning, master patissier, who is also a Macmillan “ambassador”, baked a special batch of cup-cakes, iced in the same colour green as the charity’s distinctive logo.
P&O Cruises will be backing a whole series of money raising events, including a programme of gala balls on every ship on every voyage in the coming year.
Officers and crew will be undertaking fundraising fitness challenges, including running and rowing the equivalent number of nautical miles covered by the ships as they criss-cross the oceans of the world.
P&O Cruises’ managing director Carol Marlow said: “Macmillan is an incredible charity which offers emotional, medical, practical and financial support to those affected by cancer. P&O Cruises is determined to help raise as much money as possible in 2013 to help Macmill-an carry out this role.”
