A charity’s long-awaited grand ball made sixteen grand!

It has been three years since Wessex Heartbeat held their last grand ball but the wait was worth it as the charity netted £16,000 from Saturday’s event held at the Hilton Ageas Bowl.

The new venue created an elegant backdrop for the dinner and dance attended by 150.

Guests danced to the sounds of Cord Electra and Madison Heights, made bids on auction items ranging from a Lleyton Hewitt-signed tennis racket to a sightseeing flight for two to the Northern Lights.

The auctioneer for the evening was sports presenter Michael Kurn.

Wessex Heartbeat’s chief executive Mr John Munro said: “It was a fantastic evening and a real pleasure to see so many of our supporters attend the event, enjoying the dinner and entertainment, we are really pleased that such a fantastic amount was raised and will go towards supporting the special work of the Wessex Cardiac Centre.”

The charity has two more big fundraisers before the year is out – a cruise to St Malo with Brittany Ferries on November 27 and an evening with comedian Joe Pasquale at Southampton’s Novotel on December 17. For more details call 023 8070 6095 or visit heartbeat.co.uk.
